the plains english tour 2004

what people are saying

I'm sure no one will nod off at any performance by Tim Wells and his pals from Rising Magazine, some of the liveliest poets and one of the liveliest magazines in England or America.  Gerry Locklin

Tim Wells is responsible for some of the best poetry and performance I’ve ever encountered. Not only that, he also has the gift of finding the very best company, and the brilliant motley crew that makes up the Plains English tour is a fine example of this. As a writer, he blends ingredients from a street-sussed urban milieu to create a comic, universal poetry. When I read his work, I’m reminded of the ancient poet Martial, who satirised the foibles of 1st century Rome. Like Martial, Tim Wells is witty, acute, and unashamedly lowbrow.       Andy Ching, Donut Press

If I could take one poet with me to a desert island, it certainly wouldn't be that surly genius Tim Wells. But if I had but one poet to hear at the local pub, that'd be Timmy. And you can count on his touring companions being just as righteous, hilarious, in your face, and on the floor as he. This tour is a cause of celebration for all the bars in the Midwest -- and for anyone who's ever wanted to hear what poetry's sweet beauty sounds like when bellowed from the gut of truth. Before heading out to the reading, leave a note on the kitchen table; you'll be amazed at how different it reads when you get back. If you make it back!      Bob Holman

Something for everyone - don't forget the penicillin.  John Cooper Clarke

Sarah Kobrinsky's poems taste better than blackened catfish on the tongue. They are well-crafted, lilting and sensual, and they incorporate the imagery and the rhythms of her heritage,
of the dance floor, and of her international imagination while managing simultaneously to be earthy and gritty, like the oysters found in the sauciest Louisiana gumbo.
Al Davis, Author of Alone with the Owl
